Terms and conditions
Last updated: 29 August 2026
These terms govern your use of PreventED, including registration, training, certificates, and administrator features.
1. Introduction
These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of PreventED, an online safeguarding training programme for education professionals, operated by the National Network to End Child Abuse ("NNECA", "we", "us", or "our").
PreventED includes the website, progressive web app (PWA), and native mobile applications that load the PreventED service (together, the "Service").
By registering for or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. Who may use PreventED
PreventED is intended for adults working in education, including teachers, school administrators, and authorised NNECA programme administrators.
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. The Service is not directed at children.
You are responsible for ensuring that your use of PreventED complies with your employer's policies, your school's safeguarding procedures, and applicable law.
3. Accounts and registration
You must provide accurate information when you register and keep your account details up to date.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.
If you believe your account has been accessed without your permission, contact us promptly at the email address in section 12.
School accounts and invitations
Schools may register an organisation account and invite teachers. If you join through a school invitation, your account may be linked to that school and visible to authorised school administrators for training oversight.
School administrators must only invite staff who are entitled to access safeguarding training through their school.
Administrator accounts
NNECA and school administrator accounts are provided for legitimate training administration. Administrator access must not be shared and must be used only within the scope of the user's role.
4. The training service
PreventED provides safeguarding training content aligned with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE), including activities, assessments, and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) certificates for eligible users who complete the programme requirements.
Training modules may unlock sequentially. Progress, scores, and completion records are stored so you can resume training and receive certificates where applicable.
We may update, improve, or replace training content from time to time. Published programme content is managed by authorised NNECA administrators.
Educational purpose only
PreventED is a professional development tool. It does not provide medical, legal, therapeutic, or emergency advice.
Training scenarios and feedback are for learning purposes. They do not replace your school's designated safeguarding lead, local authority procedures, or statutory guidance in force at your setting.
Certificates
Certificates are issued when you meet the programme's completion and assessment requirements. When a certificate is issued, a copy is emailed to the address on your account. You can also view, print, and download certificates in the Service at any time.
A certificate confirms completion of the PreventED training programme; it does not by itself satisfy every safeguarding obligation your employer or regulator may require.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in a way that harms others
- Share your login credentials or allow unauthorised persons to access your account
- Attempt to bypass security, access controls, or another user's data
- Copy, scrape, redistribute, or commercially exploit training content except as expressly permitted
- Upload malicious code or interfere with the operation of the Service
- Misrepresent your identity, role, or affiliation with a school
- Use the Service in a manner that could compromise the safety or privacy of children or colleagues
6. Intellectual property
PreventED content, including text, scenarios, videos, graphics, branding, and software, is owned by NNECA or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws.
We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to access and use the Service for your own professional safeguarding training while your account is active.
You may download or share your own certificate where the Service provides that function. You must not reproduce or distribute programme materials outside what the Service expressly allows.
7. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy (Privacy policy) explains how we collect and use personal information. By using PreventED, you acknowledge that we will process personal data as described in that policy.
If your school invited you to PreventED, certain training records may also be visible to authorised staff at your school as described in the privacy policy.
8. Availability and changes
We aim to keep PreventED available and reliable, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be unavailable during maintenance, updates, or circumstances beyond our reasonable control.
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue parts of the Service where necessary to operate, secure, or improve the programme. Where practicable, we will take reasonable steps to inform registered users of material changes.
We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will change when we do. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms, unless otherwise stated.
9. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate access to the Service if you breach these Terms, misuse the platform, or where required for security or legal reasons.
Teacher accounts may be deleted by you at any time. See our Delete account page (Delete account page) for instructions.
School administrators and NNECA administrators should contact us to close administrator accounts that are no longer required.
Upon termination, your right to use the Service ends. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination will continue to apply.
10. Liability
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence or for fraud.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, NNECA shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential loss arising from your use of the Service.
PreventED is provided for professional training. You remain responsible for safeguarding decisions and actions in your school or setting.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
The courts of England and Wales shall have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes arising from or relating to these Terms or the Service, except where mandatory consumer protection laws in your jurisdiction give you different rights.
